Abagail endeavours to explore the mystery of the existence of the soul through the properties of fungi. In Mexico, wild mushrooms were thought to possess a supernatural and spiritual aura and intriguingly in parts of Africa, fungi are considered as symbols of the human soul. This is so intriguing to Abagail because scientists still don’t understand how the complexities of fungi coordinate. These two aspects are fascinating to her because firstly, we can fully understand the complexities of the soul, like the science’s limited understanding with regards to the fungi, and secondly fungi are non-vascular organisms and have a separate classification in their own kingdom. Like the soul, it seemed to not to be of this world, but existing in a spiritual world within this world.
Exploring the relationship between the nature of soul and the colours and ethereal features of fungi, really brought alive the ideas of a mysterious complex life that we do not understand. The natural and organic shapes taking on a life of their own, existing in their own kingdom within a kingdom.
In light of this, Abagail wants to create a collection of designs that reflect in part, our true nature that is often neglected and overlooked. A collection that reflects the mystery, beauty and profound and unexpected layers of our existence that tends to be overlooked and unnoticed. It is a collection that she hopes will put it centre stage.
