Beulah Kuku
Beulah Kuku is an aspiring architect who centres her works around others. Whenever she ventures into a project for a determined area, she opts to find the genius loci of the location, in other words, the "Spirit" of the given place. In this way, the elements of Empathy, Connection, and Communication become the significant pillars that transcend into all of her works. They weave together, like the perfect stitches of an intricately designed dress, presented as the body of work she has come to wear.
Beulah's Final Major Project focuses on the design of an Urban Park in Blackheath, London. She used a range of mental health and demographic statistics to choose the location. Furthermore, throughout the longevity of her project, she interviewed the locals on occasion as well as carried out several questionnaires. This highlights her practicality and confirms her stated ethos.
The concept which she indulged in is that of Neuroarchitecture. She wanted her model to deter crime by having many levels to facilitate natural surveillance and has used lighting of blues, purples, and yellows to stagnate motives of violence at these times. Overall, the park is there to create vivid experiences with its users, with each structure having been meticulously designed to engage with different parts of the brain.
