Joseph O’Sullivan
Joseph is a photographer whose work focuses on topics ranging from politics, religion and family.
The Covid-19 Pandemic led him to take a deeper look at himself and the environment he is surrounded by. This led to him shooting his Final Major Project, which explores his rich archive of family photos in his "Teaghlach" project. He balanced the more energetic and lively archival images of his family albums with the more quiet and delicate spaces he found himself inhabiting during the lockdown.
Thankfully, he hasn't been personally affected by Covid-19. But the experience he felt when he came across the newly dug graves packed so tightly together chilled him to the core and was a side to the Pandemic that wasn't being focused on, so he explored this in a project called "Memories." The project takes a glimpse into the act of remembrance, life and death. Showing a side to the Covid-19 Pandemic that hasn't been seen or hardly spoken about. It looks at the lack of space in cemeteries, which was already an issue. But is now heightened by the Pandemic.
During his time on the degree, he has found a love for exploring his rich family and social history. As well as exploring topics of the day.
