Layla Mae Sreeraman

Layla is a creative, outgoing, practical designer that specialises in model making, all the way from miniatures to large scale. She focuses more on the aesthetics of a design then brings in the function and practicality after, as she finds it to be more interesting and fun this way. It allows her to be more creative and explore the area in which she is working, whether that being the social aspects, creating a bigger meaning to projects and bringing something new to the table that hasn’t been seen before. She likes to collaborate with people as well as it allows her to learn and gain new skills and see other people point of views and opinions on topics.
She has been able to work as a part of the product development team for the global makeup brand Charlotte Tilbury, multiple times which has given her an invaluable experience where she learned so much about how prototyping, ethics in companies, graphics and materials all come into play in the real world.

This was my attempt at a stop motion animation for my final major project. It shows how the 'sun' would interact with my piece as well as what happens when it gets dark.
My project took so many unexpected turns in design and eventually I took the most inspiration from Carnby street in London and just knew that my installation belonged there. The walkway that I have created is a piece that is a symbol for the cherry blossom festival in Japan. I wanted to bring the colours and excitement of that festival to London though my installation that includes cherry blossoms that would last 2 weeks just like in Japan. It would be a tourist attraction where people can come and learn, take pictures and know about another culture.

During the process of coming up with my final design, I had many prototypes and endless ideas of what these spirals could include. One of the first experiments included me having foils on one side so that there would be a mirrored side an then just a plain black side so that when they spin with the wind it would constantly be changing. Another idea was to have all the spirals lined up, one side would create an image that could be changed though out the year for different things, eg black lives matter, to help spread awareness. but as you walk through to the other side it would create another image.

This was one of my prototypes for the Beyond the fundamentals project. A modern glass houseboat that included a bar, living space and deck that would have a built in sofa with a glass base to see the water.

This was my final outcome for the 3R's Project. It included a koi pond that wrapped around the whole inside of the building and a large glass walkway over the exotic plants. An indoor garden exhibition
