Safi El Dardiry

Safi is a Foundation student going on to study Architecture. She’s particularly interested in Middle Eastern design styles and the use of pattern. Safi is half Egyptian and often draws inspiration from Egyptian culture and design in her projects. Her final project focussed on Medieval Architecture in Egypt and the patterns used on ‘Tentmakers of Cairo’ textiles. Safi enjoys experimenting with different processes and media to create models, and as a result of the pandemic, has learnt to be resourceful with materials. She particularly likes drawing and laser cutting her own patterns and using different media to add colour to these designs. Safi is interested in human interaction with space and has explored this through outdoor installation and leisure spaces. She looks forward to studying this in more depth.
