Zamara Oborska-Calado
Zamara is a fashion designer based in London specialising in womenswear. She consistently explores her inner doubts about what fashion really is. Her approach to design is always driven by direct responses from her research images. Zamara does this by draping and creating silhouettes that transmit the same feelings that she believes her research portrays. She is strong in 3D methods including draping, pattern cutting, and manufacturing that then translate to her 2D work including CAD drawings and final work illustrations. She has a strong background in print design. She was selected, alongside nine other graphic students, to create prints to be projected onto the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern for the ’Switch House’ opening in 2016.
She enjoys and explores handmade techniques as she had the opportunity to experience such knowledge from Savile Row. She has also interned at Supriya Lele, where she learned contemporary design development. The balance between these two is what Zamara is passionate about. She has recently been featured at Stitch Up! magazine at the ’Ones to watch: Class of 2021’ online article, where she explains her sustainable approach for her graduate collection. She also mentions her future goal of becoming a unisex designer that normalizes sustainability, ethically produced products, and inclusivity within the fashion industry.
